Iron-Fortified Oat Cereal

The simplest high-iron first food. One small bowl covers a large share of the day's iron target.

Good for:
  • Brain
  • Bones & teeth
  • Immunity

Ingredients

Breast milk, formula or water used to adjust texture is not counted in nutrition.

Method

  1. 1

Put the cereal in a bowl.

  2. 2

Stir in about 60 ml warm breast milk or formula, a little at a time, until smooth and runny-yogurt thick.

  3. 3

Test the temperature on your inner wrist before serving.

How to serve

Spoon-feed, letting baby open their mouth for each spoonful.

Storage

Serve fresh — discard anything left in the bowl after feeding (saliva breaks it down and introduces bacteria).

Tips

  • Choose oat or multigrain over rice cereal to limit arsenic exposure (FDA).
