Ragi Porridge (Nachni Satva)
A traditional Indian first food. Finger millet is naturally rich in calcium and gives a good dose of iron for a cereal.
Contains: Milk
Good for:
Bones & teeth
Ingredients
Breast milk, formula or water used to adjust texture is not counted in nutrition.
Method
- 1
Whisk the ragi flour into 120 ml cold water until there are no lumps.
- 2
Cook on low heat, stirring constantly, for 6–8 minutes until it thickens and turns glossy.
- 3
Stir in the ghee and cardamom. Thin with breast milk or formula if needed.
How to serve
Smooth and slightly runny; spoon-feed.
Storage
Serve fresh — discard anything left in the bowl after feeding (saliva breaks it down and introduces bacteria).
Tips
- Sprouted ragi flour (ragi malt) has better iron availability — use it if you can find it.
- No jaggery or sugar.
